Tyneside’s industrial history isn’t just about mining and it wasn’t just men who went out to work. In 1871 the Northumberland Leadworks were established on a site in the Ouseburn Valley. The 6am-2pm shifts suited women’s family duties. However, the health hazards of the stacking and blue and white lead processes were devastating.
